The kids are the least of our worries.

Seriously. If that sounds blasphemous in a course for concerned parents and educators (and anyone, really, who worries about connecting with “kids these days”), then I am so glad you’re here.

If you own a kid, work with a kid, or love a kid, you will find something inspiring and practical in this course. Dare I say game-changing.

This course were born from the hundreds of stories of kids, their families, and their support systems I was lucky to meet as I worked across Canada and the USA. Regardless of who I met or where I met them, the message was always the same: our kids are okay ONLY if those of us holding them are okay.

During the developmental years, schools—and educators—are the most significant connection point to most every child on this continent. But are the educators okay? I believe that most of the great educators want to make a difference. Many tell me, however, that they are finding it more and more difficult “these days” to love what they do. I think it’s time we did a better job of looking after them. First. Plain and simple.

This course is for the parents and educators: our teachers, bus drivers, administrators, educational assistants, librarians, administrative assistants, and custodians. And anyone who leads, loves, and supports them. If that’s you, I am so grateful you are here.

Hi, I’m Jody. I believe in two things.

First, I believe in the idea that you are exactly where you need to be. No matter how painful. No matter how wonderful. But wherever you are, you need to be there. Second, I believe that everyone has a “story” and it is this story that guides your relationships. Understanding your own story can help you make sense of where you’ve come from and it often help in the writing of all future chapters that await.

My story? I was always intrigued by relationships. And I thought for a long time “helping people” meant fixing things. It was my “job” in my family. Slowly, along the way, I have learned that it is not about having the answer. It’s not about fixing. If you can connect, however, and truly understand someone’s story – that is where the power lies. In the relationship.

And then I became a wife. And then a mother to a son, followed by boy-girl twins. The title of “mom” is the job where I really need to rely on this whole “believer” idea. I thought my story was going to read like a milk-and-cookies mom who never yelled or resorted to (extremely) excessive use of the I-Pad. Turns out, that’s not my story. Truth of the matter is – my kids make my world the brightest it’s ever been , but I have learned that I am a better spouse, a better Mom, and a better friend – better at the most important relationships – when I can show them what it looks like to have found your passion. You can’t tell people how to do the most important things in life – you have to show them. And that’s why I’m here. And, if it so happens that we’ve met, or get to meet, I look forward to your story and the lessons I’ll learn from you. And maybe those you might learn from me.
